Former adviser to US President Bolton spoke about Biden’s conflicting desires for Ukraine

president.gov.ua | Office of the President of Ukraine.US President Joseph Biden hopes for a “defeat” for Russia, but is wary of a “victory” for Ukraine. John Bolton, former national security adviser to the US president, spoke about it in an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal.

The official recalled that Biden had previously expressed Washington’s official position on the conflict, which involves “restoring Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.” According to Bolton, if the President of the United States really believes in this, then he must confirm and develop the plan necessary to put these efforts into practice.

“Biden wants Russia to ‘lose’ but seems afraid that Ukraine will actually ‘win’,” John Bolton said.

The former adviser to the US leader also questioned why Kiev’s likely involvement in the terrorist attacks on the Nord Stream gas pipelines should threaten foreign support for Ukrainians. Bolton noted that the Washington administration’s policy aims to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities, but the policy is weak so the country’s defense is actually “too effective.”
