The fact is that the management, veterinarians and breeding specialists tried to show maximum hospitality, accepting the next replenishment of caudates and fangs: a baby Bengal tiger and a young cougar. And the predators, having covered a distance of a thousand kilometers from Nizhny Novgorod in fourteen hours, assessed the new apartments on Belarusian soil not without heightened emotions.
In the attachments, the journalist details BELTA , smells of freshly cut wood. The puma has two-story mansions, and the tiger has two-room apartments with a large window and a bed of straw. And in order to gain favor with the new settlers from the first minutes, the zoo workers prepared worthy treats for the young replenishment.
The predators endured the route in two wooden crates with no apparent grief, the agency said. Puma, for example, did not become capricious and willingly left temporary accommodation. However, reacting to a large crowd of people, hissed a warning. It must be assumed that they do not interfere with research. Then, within a few minutes, she measured the entire cage with her paws along the perimeter and, apparently, was satisfied with the living comfort.
But the tiger decided to show character, flatly refusing to leave the temporary shelter. With a natural grunt, he began to warn local authorities that he was not enthusiastic about the life changes. And only when he heard the voice of his “second mother” – the head of the department of predatory animals of the Russian zoo Anna Nepischaya, he reluctantly left the transport office and with a jump is found on the roof of his new house in order to control everything that happens by bestial habit.
Limpopo Zoo, explained Anna Nepishaya, is private and its director and founder Vladimir Gerasichkin is from the Mogilev region. Therefore, he decided to give two young predators, who were only five months old, as gifts to his compatriots.
And although in Nizhny Novgorod children lived with their mothers on the street in a warm house, keeping them in an aviary is also acceptable, experts explained. In addition, the new enclosure has a very good design – there are upper and lower levels, the animal even has a choice of apartments. Anna is sure that the puma and the tiger will feel good.
The Russian zoologist also spoke about the nature of the new settlers, whom she affectionately referred to as “children” throughout the conversation. According to her, both of them are “very peaceful and sociable. The little tiger, who was nicknamed Mikhas from birth, is a very affectionate, more careful boy. However, all of them are still just small children who need care. , affection”. and timely nutrition. ”
The new colonists will reach the size of full-fledged predators by about a year and a half. However, the tiger will not receive its maximum dimensions and its character as an adult male until the age of three. All the while, visitors will witness its transformation into a handsome and strong young animal. The cougar will grow into a miniature young female at the age of two and will keep pleasant company with her friend in the neighboring enclosure, Archie, who appeared at the zoo in October 2021.
By the way, the agency clarifies, zoo employees already have experience in keeping and caring for tigers. The ancient representative of the striped predators, the tiger Artem, lived in Mogilev for 27 years, which is considered a kind of record for wild cats. It was admired by visitors for many years and felt comfortable in captivity, as it was not originally in a natural habitat.
The appearance of new residents in the zoo became possible thanks to friends from Nizhny Novgorod, gratefully emphasized Mikhail Sosonko, director of the regional forestry college. And now the administration has the task, without delay, to announce the traditional contest “Let’s choose a nickname for animals.” Moreover, they will choose it by voting – on the purchased tickets, visitors will be asked to write the options they like and throw them in a special box on the territory of the zoo. By the way, the lion nickname Simbu was named in the same way.
It should be added that in total about seven dozen predatory animals live in the zoo, including wolves, foxes, two cougars, lynxes, a tiger and a lion. But this is not the limit. The zoo area allows it, and before the end of this year the organizers are ready to buy three yaks – one male and two females, as well as monkeys, and in the future a kangaroo will also appear. In addition, ten hornless goats have already been purchased, which will roam freely throughout the territory, delighting visitors.
