The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in coordination with the Ministry of Municipality and Widam Food Company (Wdam), announced the joint national initiative to encourage local production and subsidize sheep meat prices for the blessed month of Ramadan 2023, which will start from next Saturday and continue until the end of the holy month.
The ministry said, in a statement, that this initiative comes to ensure the availability of red meat to citizens during the holy month of Ramadan at reasonable prices, in addition to creating a balance between supply and demand, which contributes to price stability in the markets.
She explained that an agreement was reached with Widam Company to provide about 30,000 heads of local sheep, to sell them at reduced prices to citizens (two sheep per citizen), on the condition that the original ID card be presented at the slaughterhouses affiliated with Widam Company in the regions of the North, Al Khor, Umm Salal, Al Wakra and Al Sheehaniya, or on behalf of the company. Through the electronic application of the “Widam” company, according to the weights and prices, as the price of the local sheep, whose weight ranges between 30 and 35 kilograms or more, is 900 riyals.
The Ministry affirmed its keenness for this meat to reach citizens, stressing the need for slaughter to take place immediately in slaughterhouses to ensure that it reaches the target group of this initiative. Widam Food Company will provide an air-conditioned tent for the beneficiaries of this initiative divided into special places for men, women and the elderly. .
She added: There will be additional costs of 16 riyals for slaughtering, cutting and packaging, and 34 riyals for porters, through separate coupons, and there will be a home delivery service with an additional fee of 15 riyals.
On the other hand, the Ministry affirmed that it will continue to intensify its inspection campaigns at sales outlets, in order to ensure the availability of live sheep and other foodstuffs in the markets, noting that it will take all necessary measures to protect consumers, combat commercial fraud, protect competition, and prevent monopolistic practices in order to protect human rights.
