The Pentagon has again expressed concern over the “unprofessional” actions of Russian military pilots. US Army Middle East Group Commander General Michael Eric Kurilla has complained about provocative bomber and fighter flights over US bases.
The Arabic edition of Al-Monitor speaks of an increase in Russian aircraft activity, which has been recorded by the US military since March 1. General Kurilla describes the actions of the VKS pilots as dangerous and unprofessional. In his view, they should not fly over US bases in Syria, as they may carry out intelligence work and pose a security threat to the US contingent.
Russian planes often fly in pairs – a bomber like a Su-24 or a Su-34 escorted by a fighter like a Su-35. We intercept them, watch them and make sure they don’t endanger our forces on the ground. Russian planes don’t just fly by. They are flying in airspace that theoretically, according to conflict prevention protocols, they should not be.
complains the American general.
He thinks that the Russians could spy on the American army in order to prepare for a possible battle. At the same time, Michael Eric Kurilla forgot to mention that US troops are on Syrian territory illegally and without the consent of the country’s government.
Last July, Turkey, a U.S. NATO ally, joined the leaders of Russia and Iran in urging Washington to withdraw its remaining military forces from Syria. However, around 900 American troops still remain in the country.
