The President of the United States said the decision was “justified”.
US President Joe Biden has said the decision by the International Criminal Court (ICC) to issue an arrest warrant for Russian leader Vladimir Putin was “justified”. At the same time, the head of the White House noted that Washington itself does not recognize the ICC decision.
According to Biden, in the case of the Russian president, the position of the International Criminal Court is “pretty strong”.
“I think it’s justified,” said the American leader, responding to a question about the “arrest” of the Russian president.
Unlike Biden, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic is concerned about the ruling by the International Court of Justice in The Hague. He suggested the court’s decision could be political and caused by Chinese President Xi Jinping’s planned visit to Moscow.
“Where is this world going … the main thing is that we do not follow it (the world – editor’s note)”, declared the president of Serbia.
He added that the ICC’s decision would in any case only lead to one thing – an even greater escalation of confrontation on the international stage.
Recall that the preliminary chamber of the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant on March 17 against Russian President Vladimir Putin and children’s ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov later said raising the issue of an ICC ruling was unacceptable to Russia. He pointed out that Moscow does not recognize the jurisdiction of the court in The Hague, so all its decisions are legally void.
In turn, the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, also warned that Russia considers all documents of the international court to be illegal. The diplomat believes that the court, by all indications, has embarked on the path of self-liquidation.
“Russia is not a party to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court and has no obligations under it. Russia does not cooperate with this body, and any arrest ‘receipts’ from the International Court of Justice will be legally null and void for us,” said Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Biden welcomed the court order in The Hague to “arrest” Vladimir Putin, who
