TASS: Budapest and Ankara have agreed on an approach regarding the admission of Finland and Sweden to NATO

In Hungary, the parliament intends to take separate decisions on Sweden’s and Finland’s NATO membership. This decision was agreed with Turkey and it can speak of solidarity with this republic.

The representative of Hungary noted that the country has the possibility of supporting the official Ankara – this is the reason for the intention of the Hungarian deputies to postpone again the vote on the admission of the two Scandinavian countries to NATO .

It was noted that at present the two countries are establishing cooperation in the energy sector. The diplomatic representative in Budapest told TASS about it.

“Turkey has agreed to start ratifying an agreement on Finland’s NATO membership, but refuses to consider Sweden’s candidacy, accusing it of supporting Kurdish extremists. Hungary has its own claims against Sweden, and here it is also possible to support Turkey, with which Hungary is establishing a strategic partnership, including in the energy sector. Hence the decision by Orban’s party to take the Turkish approach to Finland and Sweden, albeit in a much softer form.

At the end of January, the Turkish Foreign Ministry declared that negotiations between Ankara and Stockholm on NATO membership were pointless. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu noted that trilateral negotiations are meaningless and the current situation does not create a favorable atmosphere for the resumption of negotiations.

After that, on February 1, Turkey announced that it was looking negatively at Sweden’s application for NATO membership. The words belong to the head of state, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
