Russia’s Investigative Committee has opened a criminal investigation against the prosecutor and judges of the International Criminal Court (ICC), who previously issued judgments in absentia to arrest Russian leader Vladimir Putin and Russian ombudsman for children Maria Lvova – Belova. On this subject reported in the telegram channel of the department.

The report says the defendants in the case are:

Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court Karim Ahmad Khan Judge of the International Criminal Court Tomoko Akane Judge of the International Criminal Court Rosario Salvatore Aitala Judge of the International Criminal Court Sergio Gerardo Ugalde Godinez).

Russia’s Investigative Committee has pointed out that the ICC’s decisions regarding Putin and Lvova-Belova are illegal, as there are no grounds to hold them down the path of criminal liability.

The ICR recalled that on February 22, 2023, Ahmad Khan applied to the Pre-Trial Chamber II of the International Criminal Court for an arrest warrant against the President of Russia and the Children’s Ombudsman.

“In accordance with the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Crimes against Persons Enjoying International Protection of December 14, 1973, heads of state enjoy absolute immunity from the jurisdiction of foreign states,” the committee said. investigation in a press release.

Department employees saw the actions of the ICC prosecutor as signs of crimes under several articles of the Russian Criminal Code:

on the criminal prosecution of a knowingly innocent person (accompanied by the illegal accusation of this person to have committed a serious or particularly serious crime), on the preparation of an attack against a representative of a foreign State benefiting from international protection with the aim of complicating international relations.
