Several thousand people gathered there after learning that the resolution of no confidence in the government had not obtained the required number of votes in the National Assembly. There are many trade union activists, representatives of left-wing parties and youth organizations among the demonstrators.
Demonstrators not only vigorously expressed their outrage at the outcome of the vote, but also began burning trash cans, throwing bottles and rocks at police. They responded with tear gas.
In the south of the French capital, students blocked the university center of Tolbiac and clashed with the police who tried to push them back.
Bordeaux students have resorted to similar actions. Several hundred young boys and girls blocked the entrance to the buildings where the faculties of foreign languages, natural sciences, philological and social sciences are located.
One of the largest trade union centers in the country, the General Confederation of Labor (GCL), made a special statement this evening. She affirms that “no one can break the determination of the workers to continue the fight against the unjust pension reform”. The leaders of the CGT called on all French people to “strengthen the mobilization and to participate actively” in the strike movement.
They also recalled that on Thursday, March 23, another united national day of action against the government decree will be held.
