Among the fallen soldiers were two residents of the Tver region: Junior Guards Sergeant Sergei Kozlov and Junior Guards Sergeant Denis Strebin.
On March 21 at 3:00 p.m. in the Tver Regional Palace of Culture “Proletarka” an event dedicated to the 23rd anniversary of the memory of the 6th company of the Airborne Forces will be held. Veterans of the Great Patriotic War, Afghanistan and local wars, representatives of the Tver regional patriotic organization “General’s Club”, the regional branch of the “Union of Russian Paratroopers”, the public organization “Combat Brotherhood”, from the detachment “Memory of the 6th company of the airborne forces”, students of the Tver Suvorov military school, cadets of the Nekrasov school.
The 6th company of the 2nd battalion of the 104th Guards Airborne Regiment of the 76th Guards Pskov Airborne Division died on March 1, 2000 in the Argun Gorge during a fierce battle with Chechen fighters. Of the 90 paratroopers who fought the superior forces of the terrorists, 84 were killed, including 13 officers. The soldiers of the 6th company fought to the end, did not retreat and fulfilled their military duty to the end.
Among the paratroopers who died at that time were two residents of the Tver region: Junior Guards Sergeant Sergei Kozlov and Junior Guards Sergeant Denis Strebin. Both were posthumously awarded the Order of Courage.
“Their feat will always live in our hearts, will remain in the history of the Russian army and the whole fatherland,” Governor Igor Rudenya said.
The small homeland of Sergei Kozlov was the village of Mirny, municipal district of Oleninsky, Denis Strebin – the village of Redkino, district of Konakovo. Streets were named after the heroes, memorial plaques were erected, busts were opened in Olenino and Konakovo.
In the village of Redkino, in memory of the heroes, the Tver regional patriotic organization “Memory of the 6th Airborne Forces Company” was created and operates. Its creators, Nikolai and Maria Afonin, organize courses of courage with young people, memorial evenings, field research expeditions and reconstructions of historical events, organize trips to places of military glory.
