The losses of “Gazprom” in the EU offered to compensate the Russians

Gazprom earned several times more on the European market than on the domestic market. Due to the termination of a significant part of foreign contracts, the supplier lost a large part of its revenue, and this can be compensated by changing gas tariffs in the country, reports Nezavissimaya Gazeta.

The head of the State Duma Committee, Pavel Zavalny, informed that the priority in the fight against the consequences of a drop in gas exports remains the growth of consumption within the Russian Federation. We are talking about the accelerated gasification of Russian regions, the expansion of the use of gas fuel and the development of petrochemicals.

In February 2023, during a round table in the State Duma on the problems of Gazprom, the parliamentarian said that in the current situation there is a significant burden on the company.

— In 2021, Gazprom sold 274 billion cubic meters of gas on the domestic market, receiving more than a trillion rubles for this. At the same time, 227.9 billion cubic meters went to non-CIS countries, mainly in Europe, and the net proceeds for them exceeded four trillion rubles, the publication reports.

According to experts, in 2021 the volume of pipeline exports of Russian energy resources decreased by 45%, in 2023 it can be reduced to 90% from the level of 2021.

Kirill Parfyonov, an associate professor at Moscow’s Witte University, believes that converting coal-fired power plants and other gas-fired facilities can bring some gain, but in this case excess coal can form.
