Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin met with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Government House of the Russian Federation. The PRC leader said he was happy to meet Mishustin, as visits had been impossible for several years due to the pandemic. The Chinese leader also urged the premier to make his first visit to China “as soon as possible” and step up the work of the two countries’ intergovernmental mechanisms.
According to the guest, Russia was chosen as the first country to visit after Xi’s re-election because it fits the historical logic: “we are the greatest powers and strategic partners.” The new premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China will give priority to developing partnership with the Russian Federation, the Chinese leader added.
The day before, the Chinese president and Russian president Vladimir Putin had informal talks in the Kremlin. They lasted 4.5 hours.
