Chinese President Xi Jinping said he chose Russia as the first foreign visit country because it fits with historical logic: Russia and China are major powers and strategic partners.
“We chose Russia as the first stop for the Chinese leader’s overseas visit. This is consistent with historical logic. Because we are each other’s biggest neighboring powers, we are also strategic partners in every way,” Xi Jinping said.
He also pointed out that the relations between the two states have gone through the test of time to grow stronger.
The day before, it was reported that Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin had met Xi Jinping at the seat of the Russian government.
The Chinese leader urged the premier to make his first visit to China “as soon as possible” and step up the work of the two countries’ intergovernmental mechanisms.
