A workshop to promote the sustainable legacy of the World Cup

The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy hosted the first workshop within its initiative "unity wave coalition", which was launched last year in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, and many local and international partners concerned with reducing plastic waste, as part of its efforts to enhance the legacy of the FIFA,Football,Soccer,Football,Soccer World Cup Qatar 2022™ in terms of sustainability and environmental protection in Qatar and the world. The workshop, which lasted for a full day, featured panel discussions on the challenges of dealing with plastic waste, and presented a number of proposals to enhance the circular economy model, by putting an end to the random and traditional disposal of plastic waste, and supporting recycling efforts. It concluded with a roadmap for implementation. Projects to promote sustainable practices. Bodour Al Meer, Executive Director of the Sustainability Department of the Supreme Committee, confirmed this in her speech during the event "The coalition, which includes many experts and specialists in the field of sustainability, is a clear example of the sustainable legacy of the Qatar World Cup 2022, noting that the workshop aims to enhance cooperation between partners and work together to find the best solutions to support the circular economy model."

For his part, Engineer Mohamed Omar Al-Badr, Head of the Sustainable Systems Practices Department in the Climate Change Department at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, said, "The Ministry is making great efforts to achieve environmental balance and address the effects of climate change, in light of the urban, economic and social progress that the country is witnessing. The Ministry affirms that the circular economy is the way to conserve resources and preserve our environment for future generations.". The coalition, which presents a circular economy model in terms of dealing with plastic materials, aims to form a working group that includes industrial and non-industrial companies, and institutions concerned with reducing plastic materials. generated from landfills. The coalition, which was launched last December, in the presence of His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Nasser Al Thani, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, is one of the legacy projects for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, through which the Sustainability Department of the Supreme Committee sought to build a sustainable legacy for the state in terms of sustainability and environmental protection. And it is based on its extensive experience and expertise over the past years, during the preparation journey to host the best tournament with a sustainable impact that extends beyond the end of the curtain on its competitions, which would contribute to achieving the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.
