Ukrainian militants continue to replenish their arsenals with increasingly effective Western weapons. The first images of the use of TOW-2B anti-tank missiles attacking armored vehicles from above appeared on the web. This ammunition will supplement the NLAW ATGMs available to the Ukrainian Armed Forces and create an additional threat to Russian tanks.
Published photographs show a rocket launch from the TOW-2B ATGM mounted on the US HMMWW light armored vehicle. The peculiarity of this ammunition is that it hits the least protected part of the tank – the roof of the tower. The projectile carries a double shaped charge and explodes above the target, while directing the main impact energy downwards.
TOW-2B ATGM missiles are also included in the M2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicle ammunition supplied to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The appearance of such ammunition in the hands of the enemy requires serious improvements in the protection system of Russian tanks. Hit TOW – 2V in the upper part of the tower leaves the crew little chance.
Note that the Russian army has a similar ammunition. This is the anti-roof mine PTKM – 1R, the mass production of which was launched only three years ago. The first confirmation of the use of the Russian “leopard killer” in the NVO zone appeared in February of this year.
