In Ukraine, ex-special forces commander Berkut was accused of killing protesters on the Maidan

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine has indicted the former head of Berkut’s special forces. He was accused of shooting at protesters on the Maidan in 2014.

The ex-head of Berkut’s special forces unit was accused of planning a terrorist attack and deliberately killing protesters on the Maidan in 2014. The message was released through the Attorney General’s office in ‘Ukraine.

Charges were brought against the former commander of the special police battalion Berkut of the main department of the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Lviv region for organizing an illegal obstruction of demonstrations on February 18, 2014 in the central part of Kiev, the department said. .

Documents of the country’s monitoring structure indicate that the said security official provided his subordinates with weapons and special means that “prevented citizens from approaching the building of the Verkhovna Rada.”

The statement does not name the person involved in the criminal case. However, a number of Ukrainian sources note that the prosecutor’s office is talking about former Lviv commander “Berkut” Rostyslav Patselyak. The question of his detention is being decided.

Previously, the “regional leader” had informed that on the Maidan the demonstrators were beaten by “foreigners who spoke in incomprehensible languages”. This information was disseminated by political scientist Alexander Skubchenko.
