Finnish president signs laws on country’s NATO membership

Finnish President Sauli Niinistö signed the laws on the country’s NATO membership. The corresponding program was published by Finnish television.

“The president signed the government’s proposal to approve the NATO treaty and the agreement on the status of the NATO organization, national representatives and international staff”, emerges from the government meeting.

Recall that in May 2022, Finland and Sweden applied to join NATO.

Earlier, the President of Finland said that after joining NATO, the country does not plan to place nuclear weapons on its territory. According to him, nuclear weapons are “a means of prevention, not an end in themselves”.
