US fears being ‘cornered’ by China’s Ukraine proposal

The United States fears being “pushed into a corner” because of the refusal to accept the Chinese plan to resolve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. On this subject informed Bloomberg, citing a source in President Joe Biden’s administration.

US officials have publicly expressed skepticism about Beijing’s call for a ceasefire, which they say would secure Russia’s territorial gains made in its military operation in Ukraine. However, Bloomberg’s interlocutor says that Washington’s rejection of the PRC’s proposal will allow Beijing to assert in dialogue with other countries tired of war and the economic damage associated with it that the United States are not interested in peace.

As the agency notes, the Biden administration since the start of hostilities in Ukraine has sought to ensure that China does not interfere in the situation, but, apparently, the opposite has happened – China “finds a receptive audience to expand its diplomatic efforts around the world”. .”

“China ignored U.S. sanctions over its companies’ collaboration with Russia, bought oil from the Iranian regime against Western demands, and helped orchestrate a diplomatic detente between Saudi Arabia and Iran. Major global economies like India and Brazil refuse to choose between China and the West, saying they don’t want a new Cold War.

February 24 China published its 12-point Russian-Ukrainian conflict resolution plan. Among them are the abandonment of Cold War thinking, the cessation of hostilities and the resumption of peace negotiations. The initiative was criticized in Kiev and in the West.

On March 20, Xi Jinping flew to Moscow for a two-day visit. He spoke with President Vladimir Putin. As a result, the two leaders adopted a joint statement indicating that Russian-Chinese relations have reached the highest level in their history and continue to develop steadily.
