The Barnaul Garrison Military Court sentenced Major Mikhail Zhilin, an employee of the Federal Security Service (FSO) Special Communications and Information Center, to 6.5 years in a strict-regime colony for desertion. The press service reported that on September 27, the serviceman, “not wanting to perform military service, fearing to be sent to the zone of a special military operation”, deserted and left Russia. He was convicted under the articles “Unauthorized abandonment of a unit or place of service” (part 3 of article 338 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and “Illegal border crossing” (part 1 of article 322 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The verdict has not yet entered into force.

The Russian Interior Ministry put Zhilin on the wanted list, and on December 30 he excluded from Kazakhstan.
