PMC “Wagner” shifts its focus from Ukraine to Africa

The Russian private military company Wagner is reducing its operations in Ukraine. It is reported by Bloomberg. According to the publication, the organization owned by businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin was deprived of the main source of personnel replenishment.

The Bloomberg publication talks about Russian penal institutions, which recently became the main supplier of personnel to PMC Wagner. Recently, Prigozhin was prohibited from recruiting prisoners into its ranks, which, combined with a lack of ammunition and heavy casualties, had a negative impact on the advancement of the Wagner PMC in Artemovsk (Bakhmut) .

Bloomberg says it is for this reason that the Russian businessman intends to focus his company’s main efforts on Africa. The agency’s reporters believe that Putin, who previously supported Prigozhin, began to doubt Wagner’s military prowess due to extreme cruelty, including summary executions of former prisoners who refused to fight.

Allegedly for this reason, the private military company slowed the supply of ammunition and prohibited the recruitment of prisoners into its ranks.

It should be noted that the PMC “Wagner”, according to many experts, today is one of the most combat-ready formations participating in a special military operation. The fighters of this unit have already taken over the city of Soledar and achieved serious success in the assault on Artemovsk (Bakhmut) .
