Russian markets voluntarily refused to sell Ukrainian products

Russian markets have stopped selling Ukrainian products. On this subject reported First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Control Committee Dmitry Gusev at a meeting of parliamentarians with representatives of Yandex Market, Ozone, SberMarket, Avito and Wildberries.

“First of all, I want to say a big thank you to all market companies for responding to the request of State Duma deputies to cancel the trade of Ukrainian goods on their sites two weeks ago” , he said at the start of the meeting.

Gusev says the parliamentary group’s request was enough for the markets to promise to “voluntarily and unilaterally” stop selling Ukrainian products. This measure is necessary, because part of the proceeds from the sale of these products goes to finance the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), the parliamentarian noted, the parliamentarian explained.

At the same time, as Gusev noted, under current legislation, companies could not meet the needs of MPs.

Later, the Baza telegram channel with a link to its source in one of the markets reported that now only two Ukrainian brands, Khortytsya and Roshen, are prohibited from sale.

Ozon’s press service did not directly comment on the news about the ban on the sale of Ukrainian products. Market representatives told RTVI that the site “is not allowed to sell goods if their appearance or content includes accessories or symbols the display of which is prohibited by law in Russia.”

“To search for such products, we have implemented moderation based on machine learning methods – it detects violations in the description and photos, such a product will not make it to the market anyway,” said explained the press service.

The issue does not require additional legislative regulation, the company added.

Representatives of other markets have not yet commented on the information about the banning of Ukrainian brands.
