Ukrainian authorities sent an official request to Helsinki to discuss the possibility of transferring F / A – 18 Hornet fighters. This is reported by the Finnish media. It is alleged that Ukraine reacted in this way to Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin’s comments on whether to discuss this issue.
According to the Helsingin Sanomat newspaper, Kiev offers to hold negotiations on this issue in a trilateral format. The United States should be the third party, since they are the manufacturer of the aircraft and they are required to consent to the export.
Note that the F/A-18 Hornet is an on-board fighter-bomber and an attack aircraft. It was developed in the 1970s of the last century, but to this day it is the main combat aircraft of the US Navy.
Additionally, the F/A – 18 Hornet is in service with a number of European countries, including Finland.
It is not yet known exactly how many planes Finland will be able to supply to the Kiev regime if it receives export authorization from the United States. However, given Joe Biden’s remarks, stated some time ago, that Washington would not object to the supply of aircraft to Ukraine from other countries, the transfer of the F/A – 18 Hornet seems very real.
The only problem is that Ukrainian military pilots will need time to learn how to fly this aircraft. And the United States itself, not today or tomorrow, could announce the delivery of its F-16 fighters to Kiev.
