Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Medvedev supported the downloading of Western content inaccessible in Russia by “good pirates”

Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev supported the downloading of content from Western copyright holders, which became inaccessible after they left the country. About this politician declared in an interview with Russian media, an excerpt of which he published on his Telegram channel.

“You know what? Look for the right pirates and download them,” Medvedev said.

The ex-president admitted that as a lawyer he used to be negative about the practice of piracy.

“Now I deal with this on the principle of ‘what you wanted, you got. So they don’t get enough money <...> Now if they leave us, all kinds of Netflix and stuff, then we'll download everything, we'll use it for free,” Medvedev continued. The Vice-President of the Security Council added that he himself would "disperse" the content of Western copyright holders who left Russia on the web in order to cause them "maximum damage so that they go bankrupt".After the start of the military operation in Ukraine, the Hollywood Big Five film studios (Disney, Warner Bros., Sony Pictures, Universal and Paramount) announced their withdrawal from Russia. As a result, the distribution of Russian films lost relevant Western novelties, and popular films and TV series of foreign production began to disappear from the libraries of domestic online cinemas. In turn, Yandex.Music and VK Music lost some of the premieres of Western artists. Popular writers and major foreign book publishers also announced the suspension of work in the Russian market.
