The resignation of the governor of the Omsk region Alexander Burkov is actively discussed in the Kremlin. The information was reported to RBC by a source close to the examination of the matter, as well as an interlocutor in the government.
According to a source, the probability that Burkov will have to leave his office is very high. But the final decision on the fate of the politician has not yet been made.
The head of the region himself did not respond to the call and the report of the journalists. No comments have yet been received from the press service.
Dissatisfaction with the governor’s work is regularly voiced by the attorney general’s office, and Education Minister Sergei Kravtsov recently lambasted criticism. Meanwhile, Burkov’s position has plummeted in the ranking of heads of regions compiled by the Agency for Political and Economic Communications (APEC).
According to Ilya Grashchenkov, chairman of the Center for the Development of Regional Policy, due to shortcomings, the head of region 55 found himself in danger on the eve of the autumn elections. If the governor remains in his seat until the start of the election campaign, the Communist Party of the Russian Federation and United Russia intend to compete with Burkov.
