Honduras breaks diplomatic ties with Taiwan in favor of China

Honduras and Taiwan have ended diplomatic relations. First, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Central American country announced the break (this was done on behalf of the country’s President Siomara Castro), then the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the island state decided to completely stop bilateral cooperation.

“The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, on behalf of the President of the Republic, informed Taiwan of the decision to sever diplomatic relations between the two countries,” said the statement posted on the ministry’s Twitter account. Honduran Foreign Minister.

It is also noted that Tegucigalpa recognizes the existence of a single China and calls the authorities of the People’s Republic of China the only legitimate government of this country.

Earlier, director of the Institute for Contemporary Political Studies Anton Orlov commented on the European Commission’s statement on the allocation of 3 million euros to “improve the perception of the EU” in China. According to him, the European Union is trying to convey to officials in Beijing the will to maintain normal relations.
