Minorities in Germany have made indirect demands for the simplification of gender reassignment in documents. The German government, led by Chancellor Olaf Scholz, made concessions and advocated speeding up the process. The message was carried by the newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung.
The new procedure, which will be adopted in the future, is to only provide a request from a transgender, intersex or non-binary person for a name or gender change. An agreement on this issue was recently reached within the German government, according to the newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung.
In one European state, a document is still in force which provides for a change of sex in the context of mental illness. Accordingly, the candidate needs a good reason in the form of medical reports. The case is being considered by the district court for decision.
The makeovers of German law will also include a gender reassignment for teenagers under the age of 14. If the child has not reached this age, the requirements will be announced by the parents. Otherwise, if parents or guardians object, Themis considers the possibility of choosing a different sex.
