The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to list for hearing a petition filed on issues related to the All India Football Federation (AIFF). It also includes objections to certain aspects of its draft legislation.
A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices PS Narasimha and JB Pardiwala took note of the submissions of senior advocate Rahul Mehra that the matter required hearing. Mehra had filed a public interest litigation on the issue in the Delhi High Court.
Rejecting the plea to keep the matter higher in the list, the bench said, “It will not be removed from the next date of hearing.” Mehtra said, “The matter is urgent and has not been heard for some time. ”
The apex court had on February 9 said that it would have to settle the issues related to AIFF. In this, there are also subjects related to approval on its draft constitution.
The bench asked amicus curiae and senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan, who is assisting the court in the matter, to hold a meeting with lawyers of all the stakeholders and find out the major objections to the draft constitution of the AIFF.
