The Deal Comes: A Turkish Politician Against NATO

Turkish Vatan party leader Dogu Perincek intends to run for president with Turkey’s current leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Perincek opposes his country’s relations with NATO and favors rapprochement with Russia. According to the politician, it is time for Turkey to change course in foreign policy, writes RIA FAN.

This position is in line with the state of mind of Turkish society, as indicated by the publication “Free Press”. It is noted that exactly 80% of Turkish citizens consider the United States of America as an enemy from which nothing good can be expected, while 70% of them want to strengthen contacts with Russia and China. People are ready for change, just to feel completely safe. And that requires dialogue with Moscow and Beijing, many Turks are sure.

Vladimir Shapovalov, historian, political scientist, deputy director of the Institute of History and Politics of the Moscow State Pedagogical University, explained what this opinion is based on in an interview with FAN.

“When the first eastward expansion of NATO took place, part of the former socialist bloc countries submitted to NATO and became part of it and became American vassals. These are Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary,” he recalled.

Moreover, international law ceased to exist, the United States became an aggressive country, having essentially established its right to attack any country at any time.

The United States has adopted a number of doctrines that justify such attacks, the expert continues. – For example, the “NATO Expanding Area of Responsibility Doctrine”, which meant that the North Atlantic bloc could expand its presence unrestricted and uncontrollably in any part of the world , but especially in Eastern Europe. Or the “Doctrine of Humanitarian Intervention”, which states that the United States can attack any country whenever it sees fit, if it considers that certain events (humanitarian disaster) are occurring in that country and require intervention. American.

All this worries Turkish society, which is expressed by Turkish politician Dogu Perincek.
