Theatrical art has been developing in Tver for more than 265 years. According to Governor Igor Ruden, the Upper Volga region has a rich theatrical history, which today is successfully multiplied not only by professional theater groups, but also by amateur theater groups.

“Brilliant works of talented directors and actors of the Tver country have received great public recognition and sincere love from the audience, they play an important role in the formation of moral values, the education of the younger generation,” said said the head of the region. believes.

The funds of the Tver Regional Art Gallery have a unique and extensive collection of exhibits related to theatrical art.

The exhibition “Our light is theatre! opened in the Art Tower of the Imperial Palace in Tver! gives the audience the opportunity not only to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the stage performance, but also to discover the secret world behind the scenes and feel the colossal work carried out by the directors, set designers, decorators, costume designers, musicians and lighting.

At the exhibition you can see sketches of theatrical sets and costumes for performances, rare postcards of the beginning of the 20th century with portraits of leading actors of St. Petersburg theaters, images of theater buildings and their interiors.

A series of decorative caricature sculptures of outstanding actors of the Moscow Art Theater named after AAP Chekhov, created in 1935. These are famous artists – IM Moskvin, KS Stanislavsky, VE Meyerhold and SS Prokofiev.

A special place at the exposition is occupied by exhibitions of arts and crafts. Among them is the sculpture “Renaissance Couple in Love”, made at the MS Kuznetsov factory in the Tver province. It depicts actors dressed in the tragedy Faust by Johann Goethe.

The exhibition is supplemented with props, without which it was impossible to attend a theatrical premiere at the end of the 19th – beginning of the 20th century – theater bags, a fan, women’s weekend gloves, powder boxes.
