St. Petersburg court banned Sartre’s quote about anti-communists

The Primorsky District Court of St. Petersburg declared a photo with a statement by French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre about people with anti-communist views banned from posting on the Internet. On this subject informed portal ZAKS.Ru.

The court granted the request of the prosecution, which considered that Sartre’s remarks contained signs of “humiliation of human dignity based on hatred or political, ideological enmity”. The agency demanded the prohibition of access to the six sites on which the quote was published. Administrators of some of these resources are located abroad, notes ZAKS.Ru.

Also in court called the author of the translation of the works of Sartre, professor at the St. Petersburg State University of Economics, Sergey Fokin. However, the scientist did not come to the meeting.

Dispute over Sartre

February 9, 2022 Primorsky District Court GOOD l member of the Communist Party Alexei Filippov for 10 thousand rubles. under art. 20.3.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (“Incitement to hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation of human dignity”). The reason for the administrative case was that in 2017 Filipov reposted a post on a social network with a quote from Sartre from the audience “Communists of the Mogilev region”, in which the writer called anti-communists bastards.

How writing “Kommersant”, the prosecution in its conclusion specifies that the sentence is “attributed” to the French philosopher. However, the defense searched for the original work from which the quote was taken. It turned out that it was not translated into Russian. The communists turned to the translation agency. They concluded that Sartre in his text called anticommunists dogs or bastards. The defense said “bastard” is a synonym for the word “bastard,” and therefore Filippov’s message was a scientific citation.
