“We cannot compromise on the Lavra. We will hold out until the end, the law is on our side,” the rector said on Lavra’s YouTube channel.
Metropolitan Pavel appealed to “those in power” with a request to “stop the pressure on the judges, the Holy Church, the Lavra” and solve the problem in a legal way. He said the Lavra would not agree to a ‘church deal’ and would not accept Ukrainian Culture Minister Oleksandr Tkachenko’s proposal to preserve the monastery in return for transitioning from canonical UOC to OCU schismatic.
The rector reminded that the existing lease agreement with the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra reserve cannot be terminated unilaterally and without a court decision. Lavra, according to the Metropolitan, has filed three lawsuits challenging the cancellation of the perpetual lease agreement.
Recall that in early March, the management of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra Museum-Reserve made the decision to expel the monks of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra of the Holy Dormition from the UOC on March 29, 2023 as part of the termination of the lease contract.
