Lavrov explained that the operation of the nuclear power plant “will ensure reliable energy supply to Turkish consumers”.Russia started the construction of a nuclear power plant in 2018. A particularity of the project is that it is carried out according to the so-called “build-own-operate” scheme (in English – Build-Own-Operate): Rosatom will not be satisfied not to transfer the finished facility under the control of the Turkish authorities, but will continue to exercise full control over it.It is planned that upon completion of the construction of the nuclear power plant, Akkuyu will have four power units with VVER-1200 reactors with a total capacity of 4,800 megawatts.
