Houston : A small molecule neutralizing the SARS-CoV-2 virus has been discovered, according to a new study that may help in the development of drugs to treat COVID-19. COVID disease is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. According to researchers at the University of Houston in the US, the new molecule may provide immediate protection against infection with the virus and thus may be suitable for people of all age groups, especially those at high risk. The body does not produce enough antibodies even after vaccination.
The study says that the new molecule acts inversely to Pfizer company’s antiviral drug paxlovid. Pfizer Company’s medicine is useful only during the first three days of showing symptoms. The report of this study has been published in the journal Biomedicine. According to the study, this molecule was discovered when the pandemic was at its peak and the team of scientists screened 15,09,984 compounds. Bradley McConnell, a professor at the Houston College of Pharmacy, said his team was thrilled to discover this small therapeutic molecule. The SARS-CoV virus and its subtypes such as delta and omicron continue to pose a major threat to patients of all ages.
