The “American Nightmare” Has Become American-Style Human Rights

March 27th was a very sad day for many American families. That morning, three children under the age of 9 and three adults were killed in a shooting at an elementary school in Nashville, Tennessee, US. It was the deadliest school shooting in the US since the shooting incident at Robb Elementary School in Texas State in May 2022. US President Joe Biden said such a tragedy is every family’s “worst nightmare”. The nightmare is happening again and again. What is the reason for this? The “2022 Report on Human Rights Violations in the US” released by the Chinese authorities on March 28 revealed the truth to the world.
This 18,000-word report uses vivid cases and detailed data to document the violations of the basic rights and freedoms of the American people over the past year. This shows that the human rights situation in America has worsened. The report mentions that shootings have become the leading cause of death of children in the US. The school shooting has not only shattered Americans’ faith in national security, but has once again exposed the hypocrisy and shame of “human rights defenders”. But the agony of the “human rights defenders” does not end here.
From the inability to guarantee the personal safety of citizens, American-style elections have become a game for the rich. From the intensification of racial discrimination to the widening of the gap between the rich and the poor, all of this has completely eroded Americans’ perception of domestic democracy and human rights. According to poll results released on November 9 by NBC News, 72 percent of Democratic voters, 68 percent of Republican voters and 70 percent of moderate voters believe that democracy faces a threat.
Why are people generally disappointed in American democracy and human rights? There are two key words involved in this: one is money and the other is party struggle. Politics in America has been hijacked by capital and tied to money. When America lacks the real power of the people in elections, who cares about their well-being and life and death? The so-called “of the people, by the people and for the people” has naturally become empty talk. Look at party conflict In the past three decades, political polarization has become one of the most prominent features of American politics. When the interests of political parties and groups are paramount, the interests of the people have to stand aside.
The human rights situation in the country is bad. The US government has turned a blind eye to this. Instead, it weaponized human rights, interfered in the internal affairs of other countries, and created conflict, division, and chaos in the international community. Facts have proved time and again that no matter how grand the pretext, the US government cannot hide its true objective of protecting the interests of the privileged class at home and hegemony abroad. Faced with a “mess” of human rights in their own country, what right do American politicians have to point fingers at other countries? American-style human rights are the “worst nightmare” for Americans and a nightmare for people all over the world.
