Tyumen resident Elvira Chanieva said she buried her longtime cat Dashun according to Muslim traditions. To which the Deputy Chairman of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Russian Federation, the Mufti of Moscow, Ildar Alyautdinov, replied that the ceremony had nothing to do with Islam.
“We don’t have traditions of burying cats or other animals according to Islamic laws, as the mistress of a four-legged animal says. Never seen or heard of such a thing. The Tyumen affair with the cat and especially the “funeral” is a kind of nonsense that has nothing to do with the real laws of Islam,” RIA Novosti quotes the interlocutor.
The mufti suggested that owner Dashun’s words were caused by her emotional state following the loss of her pet. According to Alyautdinov, in the Muslim tradition, a cat is a pure animal, but not a sacred one. In conclusion, the mufti wished the owner of the animal good health.
The Siamese cat was included in the Russian Book of Records as the oldest in the country. Dashun died at the age of 26 on Tuesday March 28.
Earlier, Reddit users admitted that they would love to befriend wild animals and save the world.
