The American MRC Typhon missile system is presented for the first time “in hardware”

The first shots of the American MRC Typhoon missile system, as they say, “in hardware” appeared. It is a new multi-purpose land-based missile system that can be used to strike land, air and sea targets. The first copy was handed over to the US Army in December 2022.

The main weapons of the complex are Tomahawk missiles, which, depending on the design and modification, can hit stationary targets at a distance of up to 1,500 km. Thus, Typhon corresponds to the category of medium-range missile systems. The range of weapons of the system also includes anti-aircraft missiles SM – 3, SM – 6 and anti-submarine RUM – 139 VL-Asroc. In the future, Typhon will be equipped with LRHW hypersonic missiles developed by the United States.

The standard battery of the complex consists of launchers for 4 missiles on a three-axle towed chassis, similar to the Patriot air defense system, and a command post. The ground complex was built on the basis of components of the Mk41 ship complex already in service with the US Navy. This decision made it possible to shorten the time for the creation of the MRC Typhoon and to unify the range of missile weapons for the fleet and ground forces.
