Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko warned of a third world war "nuclear" looming on the horizon, calling for a truce in Ukraine, considering that the return of nuclear weapons to Belarus is neither blackmail nor intimidation, but rather to ensure its security and the safety of its people.
Lukashenko – a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin – said in a televised speech, according to Al Jazeera Net, today, Friday: "Because of the United States and its affiliated countries, an all-out war broke out" In Ukraine, warning that "Nuclear fires lurk on the horizon".
Lukashenko proposed a cease-fire in Ukraine and the start of negotiations, noting that Russia has the right to move its forces or transfer equipment and weapons if the West takes advantage of that truce.
He also confirmed that he asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to return the nuclear weapons that were removed after the collapse of the Soviet Union to Belarus, and said that NATO is strengthening its military presence in the east, which threatens the borders of Russia and Belarus, considering that the war is not far from his country and that there are Attempts to drag them into it, adding that if a new conflict erupts in another part of the world, everyone will forget Ukraine, he said.
Lukashenko also stressed that the battles in Ukraine will not end without the approval of the leaders from behind the perimeter, while the military from Ukraine and Russia do not know what they are fighting for.
For its part, the Kremlin said that Putin and Lukashenko are likely to discuss the Belarusian initiative on Ukraine, also noting that some points of the Chinese initiative are not achievable. "Because Ukraine does not want to oppose countries dictating its actions"according to the statement.
The Kremlin stressed that the continuation of special military operations in Ukraine is the only way to achieve Russia’s goals at the present time, considering that the discussions in the European Union regarding sending peacekeeping forces to Ukraine "Extremely dangerous"stressing that calls for the deployment of nuclear weapons in Ukraine "It creates a virtual danger that Russia cannot ignore".
Defense of Ukraine
In another context, the European Union’s foreign policy commissioner, Josep Borrell, said that defending Ukrainian sovereignty is necessary for the whole of Europe, and this cannot be achieved without giving Ukraine the means to achieve it.
Borrell stressed the need for the Russian president to be held accountable and pay the price for what it described as war crimes, calling for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine on the basis of the United Nations Charter, according to which Russia would withdraw its forces from all Ukrainian lands.
