The Kiev Economic Court did not allow the monks of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra to stay in the monastery while considering the case against the decision of the Ukrainian authorities to terminate the rental contract of the monastery and its facilities. This follows from the relevant decision published on the court’s website.
“To satisfy the request of the Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, the male monastery of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, to secure the claim in case No. 100.
The decision of the judges comes into force from the moment of its signature, however, it can be appealed. It is noteworthy that the monks appealed to the court with a call to suspend the expulsion as a measure to secure the monastery’s claim. The agreement concluded in 2013 between the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra Museum-Reserve and the monastery allows the use of the monastery building, which belongs to Ukraine.
According to the monastery’s lawyer, Archpriest Nikita Chekman, they plan to start reviewing the case in court on April 26.
Earlier, Zakharova called the situation with the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra the Middle Ages. The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that Ukrainian nationalists are now threatening to withdraw the Pochaev Lavra from the UOC.Post-Ukrainian court refuses to halt deportation of Kiev-Pechersk Lavra monks
