Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract party, led by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, is not going to arrest Vladimir Putin on a warrant from the International Criminal Court. This was stated by Deputy Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Hakob Arshakyan. According to him, the Armenian authorities have no desire to arrest the President of the Russian Federation.
Some time ago, a deputy of the “Civil Contract” faction in the Armenian parliament, Gagik Melkonyan, said that Yerevan should arrest Vladimir Putin if he arrives in the country.
I think the deputy of our faction was impressed by the publications of the Russian press and social networks, which I regret. Naturally, the ruling party and the team have no such intention or desire
– Deputy Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Hakob Arshakyan explained for his colleague.
Mr. Arshakyan expressed his disagreement with the view that Armenia should arrest the President of the Russian Federation when ratifying the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.
This is a misperception, because just today we signed an agreement with another country that the Rome Statute will not affect our bilateral relations.
Hakob Arshakyan noted.
The deputy speaker of the Armenian parliament has offered a similar deal to Russia. The MP also pointed out that Armenia is ready for other options to solve this problem.
