WhatsApp has just sent out a new update as part of the TestFlight beta program, bringing the version up to 23.6.0.73. What’s new in this update? Thanks to the business version of the application, it became clear that WhatsApp was working on the possibility of sending video messages for a future update of the application! Until now, anyone who wanted to send a video via WhatsApp first had to upload the relevant material from the smartphone’s gallery to the chat. As was known, the developers considered this step superfluous.
wabetainfo.com, an independent WhatsApp news portal, reports that in the future, in addition to existing capabilities, the messenger will offer its users video messaging. According to the information received, the video will not need to be uploaded to the chat as an attachment. With this new feature, users will be able to easily record and send short videos up to 60 seconds to their contacts by pressing the camera button.
Once sent, the video message will appear in the chat window as a small circular image. As soon as the interlocutor opens the chat, the video recording is automatically activated. A similar option has been offered by Telegram, WhatsApp’s closest competitor, for quite some time now.
New feature, new encryption
Video messages will be protected by end-to-end encryption. Also, for privacy, they cannot be saved or forwarded to other chats, at the same time, screenshots are still allowed.
With this step, the developers want to make sure that neither WhatsApp nor parent company Meta can see your videos.
The new feature is currently in beta testing. According to wabetainfo.com, no release date has yet been set for the new version.
