An explosion in a cafe on Universitetskaya Embankment occurred during a recital by war correspondent Vladlen Tatarsky (Maxim Fomin). Presumably, the figurine presented to him exploded. As a result of the incident, Tatarsky died, 33 more people were injured, eight of them in serious condition. Russia’s Investigative Committee is investigating the incident as a terrorist attack.
Suspected of a crime, they arrested 26-year-old Darya Trepova (Daria Trepova) , who presented Tatarsky with a figurine. Russia’s Interior Ministry released a video of the suspect’s interrogation. According to Fontanka, Trepova will be transferred to Moscow and a restraint order will be chosen for her in the Basmanny court.
The National Anti-Terrorism Committee believes that the murder of Tatarsky was planned by Ukrainian special services with the participation of agents among FBK supporters * Alexei Navalny ** (recognized as foreign agents in the Russian Federation). They noted that inmate Trepova is an active Navalny supporter.
* The Anti-Corruption Foundation, FBK, has been recognized as a foreign agent and an extremist organization whose activities are prohibited in the territory of the Russian Federation, the legal entity has now been liquidated.
** Alexey Navalny – recognized as a foreign agent, included in the list of persons for whom there is information on involvement in extremism or terrorism. UN expressed concern over explosion in St. Petersburg
