The meeting was held behind closed doors at the request of the investigator, who said “public consideration may infringe on the privacy” of participants in the proceedings. This request was supported by the prosecutor and granted by the judge.
Trepova herself, like her lawyer Daniil Berman, opposed the closed regime of the meeting. The girl’s defender (he also represents the interests of Wall Street Journal correspondent Evan Gershkovich arrested for espionage) pointed out: “If the investigation found that a regime of secrecy was necessary, no leak should have been permitted.”
Earlier, the Investigative Committee said that “on April 2, 2023, Trepova, following the instructions of people operating from the territory of Ukraine, brought a statuette filled with explosives to a cafe in the center of St. Petersburg and handed it over to military correspondent Maxim Fomin, known under the pseudonym of Vladlen Tatarsky.
According to Fontanka, Trepova met a certain “activist” online, to whom she shared her opinions and her participation in protest rallies. He allegedly offered the girl to move to Kiev and take of editor “in one of the media resources”, but for this she had to perform several tasks. The figurine stuffed with explosives was delivered to Daria in Moscow.
The girl was reportedly instructed to first attend a meeting with Tatarsky in the Listva bookstore and get to know him, then to bring the figurine in the evening to a bar in St. Petersburg and present it to the military commander. Trepova completed the task and the figure exploded in close proximity to Tatarsky, who died on the spot. More than 30 meeting participants suffered injuries of varying severity.
