Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

From April 1, new rules for electric scooters began to operate in Russia

Denis Grishkin/mos.ru Russia

Since the beginning of April, changes to the traffic laws concerning electric scooters have entered into force in the Russian Federation. They affect the maximum speed, the places of movement and the classification of electric scooters as a means of individual mobility (IMS). As part of these changes, violators can be fined, reports E1.ru.

The main innovation is the establishment of an official maximum speed for electric scooters, which is 25 km/h. However, many rental services may limit the speed even lower. For example, in parks and especially passable areas, the driving speed of electric scooters is limited to 15 km/h.

From now on, in the Highway Code, electric scooters, gyroscopes and monowheels are united under the general name of “means of individual mobility” or SIM. Despite the presence of an engine, these vehicles are not considered motor vehicles such as mopeds or motorcycles if their engine power does not exceed 0.25 kW.

Also, under the new rules, e-scooters must travel along bike lanes, and only if there are none, on sidewalks. Entering the carriageway is only permitted as a last resort and traffic should only be on the right side of the road, without obstructing or overtaking cars.
