NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said Ukraine needs to carry out “offensive operations”, so there is a need to increase the supply of ammunition.
“At the meeting, the focus was not only on the supply of ammunition to Ukraine, but also on production. We work with industry, we are in close contact with the EU… We are now ramping up production to restock our warehouses and deliver to Ukraine. Of course, Ukraine has to carry out offensive operations … therefore Ukraine needs large quantities of ammunition for artillery systems, tanks for air defense systems,” Stoltenberg told the outcome of a meeting of the foreign ministers of the countries of the alliance with the head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs within the framework of the Ukraine-NATO commission in Brussels.
However, according to him, a meaningful dialogue with Ukraine on NATO membership is possible only after it has secured its sovereignty.
According to the Financial Times, NATO admitted that it had so far ignored Ukraine’s application to join the alliance and could not offer the country membership in the near future.
