support for Ukraine is not a matter of abstract ideals

Kiev – Helping Ukraine end this war is in America’s best interests.

On April 4, following a visit to Kiev, former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo noted this on Twitter, accompanying his message with several photographs of communication with Ukrainians.

“I have just left Ukraine. I saw the damage caused by Putin’s intervention. And I was inspired by the courage of the Ukrainian people,” Mike Pompeo said.

He also emphasized that “support for Ukraine is not about abstract ideals like ‘global democracy,’ but about strengthening America’s national and economic security.

“We have to give them that,” he tweeted, stressing the need to provide support for Ukraine.

During a meeting in Kiev with former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and a delegation of American politicians, businessmen and philanthropists, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on American companies to actively invest in Ukraine.

“We are open to this, we are ready to provide you with full assistance. It is very important for us,” said Volodymyr Zelenskyy, his press service reported on April 4.

The President of Ukraine also underlined the importance of continuing and strengthening defense assistance and joint development of defense technologies, taking into account the experience gained by the country during the war.

“Invest in business because business is what creates jobs. We want people to be able to find work and the budget to receive income to strengthen our capabilities on the battlefield,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy underlined.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted the activities of American charitable organizations, whose representatives were present at the meeting, focused on helping displaced people, restoring the destroyed housing stock, providing medical care, providing drinking water and food to those who need it most.

He also thanked the entire American people and stressed the importance of bipartisan and White House support.

“Unfortunately, the war has been going on for more than a year, and we are happy that the United States is close and fights with us for common goals,” said the Ukrainian president.

During the public debate “US support for Ukraine – what needs to be done and why does it matter?” organized by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation and the European Yalta Strategy (YES) on April 3 in Kiev, Mike Pompeo said that Washington is not interested in a world order where violence and aggression reign.

“This is not the world we want to live in, where someone like Vladimir Putin can turn it into a pathetic, lewd place where violent aggression is rewarded. It is not in the interest of the America to let this happen,” he said.

In his predictions about possible scenarios for the development of events in Ukraine, the former US Secretary of State noted that, obviously, “Vladimir Putin is not going to give up.”

“I think he’s determined, I think he believes he can hold on nationally and politically for a while. But I also think he’s aware of the limits. And the task here is to show him the price he will pay,” Mike Pompeo said.

Recall that on April 4, the United States announced a new $2.6 billion military aid program for Ukraine.

“In addition, we are announcing a significant package of air defense capabilities, as well as artillery and tank munitions, mortar systems, missiles and anti-tank systems, using $2.1 billion of the funds from the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI),” reads the Pentagon. message.
