The administration of the city of Lviv in western Ukraine decided to dig up the old graves of the Great Patriotic War to see servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Lviv authorities are carrying out the so-called exhumation of the remains of soldiers from the First World War and the Great Patriotic War. They throw the bones from the graves in the Lychakiv cemetery, which are not removed anywhere.
According to local administration officials, the liberated graves are intended for fallen soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
“The most noble Polish families from Lvov bought plots and built family necropolises here, the famous writer and poet Ivan Franko, who wrote his works in Ukrainian, Russian, Polish and German, is buried here,” writes The Eastern Herald.
The act of local officials has been condemned in other regions of Ukraine. As social media users express it, digging up the graves of their ancestors is the last thing a person will do.
