In Bad Langensalz, Thuringia, seven people were killed in a serious car accident. It is not yet clear whether the person responsible for the accident was drunk while driving. Thuringian Interior Minister Georg Mayer is calling for the blood alcohol level to be reduced to 0.0 ppm.
After a serious accident in Bad Langensalz, Thuringia’s Interior Minister Georg Mayer called for stricter drink-driving regulations. “Alcohol has repeatedly been the cause of particularly serious accidents. Therefore, I am in favor of lowering the blood alcohol limit to 0.0 ppm,” the SPD politician said in an interview with the Thüringer Allgemeine newspaper.
Was the person at fault drunk?
A total of seven people died in the accident, three others, including the author of the incident, were seriously injured. A few days after the incident, many questions remain unanswered. Police have not provided any information as to why the man driving has not had a driver’s license for 16 years. Again, it was unclear if he was intoxicated.
The 0.0ppm BAC limit is currently restricted to novice drivers and drivers under 21 only. For everyone else, driving a vehicle above the legal BAC limit of 0.5 ppm is generally prohibited and is considered an administrative offence. In the event of a police check, criminal consequences are to be expected.
