The demographic situation in Russia leaves much to be desired. At the same time, the country is losing weight among other states, said State Duma deputy Mikhail Delyagin.

“The reduction in the share of the Russian economy in world GDP is foreseen by forecasts, all plans, intentions. This is one of the targeted functions that the Russian state is implementing,” the speaker quoted on the PUTIN in Telegram channel.

The importance of countries is mainly determined not by the share of GDP, but by the total power, which includes many different indicators. Since they are not calculated in Russia, the country is forced to use only a share of GDP. And its decline leads to a dismissive attitude from other states, not just hostile states, Delyagin added. As an example, he cited Armenia’s support for the decision of the International Criminal Court, which issued an arrest warrant against Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“If the government wanted to increase Russia’s share in the world economy, increase Russia’s importance in the world, it would provide measures to achieve this goal. But such a goal, as can be judged by his actions, is not in reality … When Russia stops Gaidar’s policy of destroying the country instead of developing it, after a while the indicators will change from dynamic,” said the parliamentarian.

Delyagin recalled that in 2021 the country’s population decline amounted to one million people, in 2022 – 600,000. And that’s not counting those who left because of a special military operation. In the conditions of extinction, Russia will not be able to increase its importance, the MP concluded.

Previously, a former FSB officer, Colonel Gennady Gudkov, accused Ukrainian citizens living in Russia of not yet denouncing President Vladimir Putin.
