The American multinational Microsoft has agreed to pay nearly $3 million to settle more than 1,300 violations of American sanctions against Cuba, Iran, Syria and Russia. This is reported by the US Treasury, reports RT.

The Department of Finance announced the settlement of the dispute between Microsoft and the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).

“Microsoft Corporation has agreed to pay $2,980,265.86 to settle its potential civil liability for 1,339 violations,” it said in a statement.

Of note, the company violated Cuban asset control provisions, as well as sanctions related to Syria, Iran, and Ukraine/Russia, regarding the export of services and software from the United States. towards these jurisdictions and the persons under sanctions. In particular, sales were made to users in Crimea, which the West does not recognize as Russian.

Earlier, Microsoft Chairman Brad Smith said he intended to continue scaling back operations in the Russian Federation until there was nothing left. At the same time, he stressed that the company will provide support to Russian employees.
