Rosstat informed of a sharp increase in the incidence of acute hepatitis and syphilis at the beginning of 2023

In Russia, the incidence of infectious diseases, such as syphilis, HIV, hepatitis and tuberculosis, has risen sharply. According to experts, such dynamics may be associated with both the tightening of requirements for health workers to provide data on such patients, and the influence of the special operation, reports Medvestnik, citing Rosstat.

In January 2023 alone, about 2.6 thousand people fell ill with syphilis in Russia, which is 71% more than in the same period in 2022. In total, 4 out of 5 diseases considered socially significant showed a increased incidence.

  • The incidence of gonococcal infection increased by 19% in January 2022 (900 cases of infection were registered), newly diagnosed tuberculosis – by 10% (2.9 thousand), HIV – by 20% ( 4.4 thousand). The only disease that did not show growth was pediculosis, but over the past year it has not been detected less frequently (-0.1%), reports Rosstat.

Half of all cases of HIV infection were detected in fairly large regions: Krasnodar, Krasnoyarsk and Perm regions, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Irkutsk, Kemerovo, Nizhny Novgorod, Novosibirsk, Rostov, Samara, Sverdlovsk and Chelyabinsk regions. The increase in the incidence of acute hepatitis was 45%.

The situation of syphilis and hepatitis is particularly problematic. Doctors say the growth may be due to tougher requirements for health workers to provide data on such patients. In other words, they started paying more attention to these patients.

The coronavirus pandemic has also played an important role. Patients who suffered the disease often suffered from various herpes infections of the genitals.

Previously, doctors warned Russians about an outbreak of bacterial meningitis. Infectious disease doctors warn of a growing risk of contracting meningococcal disease in Buryatia, with two cases identified in the region last week
