The prosecution asked the Moscow City Court to sentence politician Vladimir Kara-Murza * to 25 years in prison for treason, “false news” about the army and participation in the activities of an undesirable organization. This was announced on April 6 by his lawyer Maria Eismont, transmits sota.

“During the argument of the parties, the prosecutor requested the sentencing of Kara-Murza* to 25 years in a strict regime colony for all three crimes of which he is accused”, quotes TASS Eismont.

What is Kara-Murza accused of?

Vladimir Kara-Murza* has been in prison since April 2022. First, a criminal case has been opened against him for spreading false information about the Russian military (clause “e”, part 2, article 207.3 of the Criminal Code). The reason for this was the politician’s speech in the House of Representatives of the US state of Arizona on the actions of the Russian army in Ukraine.

In July 2022, a criminal case was opened against Kara-Murza* for the activities of an undesirable organization (part 1 of article 284.1 of the Criminal Code).

The most serious charge was the treason case (article 275 of the penal code), in which Kara-Murza* was implicated in October. According to investigators, the politician provided organizations of NATO member countries with “assistance directed against the security of Russia”, for which he received 30,000 dollars a month.

Kara-Murza*’s lawyer, Vadim Prokhorov, reported that the reason his client was charged with treason was criticism of Russian authorities during public speeches in Lisbon, Helsinki and Washington.

The trial in the Kara-Murza* case is being held behind closed doors.

During his stay in the pre-trial detention center, the politician’s health deteriorated. Lawyers reported that he had developed polyneuropathy – problems with the vessels in the legs. Marie Eismont said in an interview with Bild on April 3, Kara-Murza* has lost 18 kg, and his left arm and both legs are losing sensation.
